Language Disorder
Language disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder which develop during the early stage of development. In language disorder a child may have difficulty in conveying meaning of speech properly, speaking properly, and writing and sometime in gestures as well. Language disorder sometimes involves problems with grammar, word choice, vocabulary and the appropriate use of language in some social situations. A child may have language
disorder from birth or It may be develop later due to any brain injury or any other medical condition.
Diagnostic Criteria of Language Disorder
Diagnostic Criteria A.
If a child is facing persistent difficulties and problems in the acquisition and the proper use of language in different situation for example in speaking, writing, sign language, or others. This may be due to deficits in conception or may be in the production of speech that include the following:
- Reduced vocabulary child can have less word knowledge and use less knowledge about the use of these words
- Limited sentence structure the child may not have the ability to put words in a structural manner to convey the message he or she wants to and put word endings together to form a complete meaningful sentence.
- Impairments in expression the child may not have age appropriate ability to use vocabulary appropriately and connect sentences to make it meaningful. They have difficulty to explain or describe any topic or series of events happening to describe or have difficulty in a conversation.

Diagnostic Criteria B.
Language abilities are considerably below the abilities expected for same age. Lack of language abilities appropriate for age results in lack of social participation of child, academic achievement and functional limitations in effective communication.
Diagnostic Criteria C.
The language disorder starts to develop during the early stage of
development.
Diagnostic Criteria D.
The lack of language ability is not due to hearing or presence of any other sensory impairment and motor dysfunction.
Diagnostic Features
The important signs of language disorder are difficulties in the attainment and use of language. This difficulty can be due to deficits in the vocabulary, sentence structure and grammar. The language deficits are evident in spoken communication, written communication, or sign language.
Language disorder most of times affects vocabulary and grammar. Lack of vocabulary and grammar cause lack of communications and conversations. The child with
language disorder may have word-finding problems, poor understanding of synonyms and word play appropriate to culture and age. The child with language disorder have problems with memorizing new words and forming sentences for example remembering a phone number or a remembering a shopping list. The child with developmental disorder may appear to be shy or cagey to talk. The child with such type of problems individuals can communicate only with family members comfortably or with other familiar individuals.
Development and Course
Language disorder starts to develop during the early
stage of development. There is significant variation in early vocabulary acquisition in child and word combinations during early age.
